I was starting to feel a tad worried that my little boy had missed the reading bug. Anyone with more than one child will understand how time-poor you become. The first one still demanding their routine. With storytime becoming longer & the books themselves more detailed - far too detailed for a little boy to sit through at this stage in his life (he's more at the stage of "Goodnight room, Goodnight moon", not what Noddy's latest adventures in Toyland are this week!!) However, I made it my New Year's resolution to include a story in his day, and it's so heart-warming to see it paying off already. Just like his sister did a few years back, he's started taking a real interest in the book basket in his own room, sitting and sorting through the stories available to him. He'll select one that looks appealing (maybe some farm animals, or planes, or even the one with a glittery mermaid on the front!), come and grasp my finger, and lead me to the "Reading Chair" in his room. It doesn't matter that he rarely sits through an entire story before wriggling down to choose another... it's the fact that the seed has been planted. I'd be thrilled to have another child that values reading as much as I do ...their daddy can concentrate on the numbers-side-of-things in his "quality" time!
